Triple Treat

We got three more rock stars on board today… John Frusciante, Tom Morello, and Dean Deleo!

Hell yeah!!! ????

John Frusciante was the guitarist for Red Hot Chilli Peppers from 1988-1992 and again from 1998-2009, recording five studio albums with the band. Frusciante has also been an active solo artist with 11 solo albums and 5 EPs released, and his guitar playing has brought him to hero status in the guitar world. His tenth solo album Enclosure came out in 2014, followed by an album recorded in 2015 by his alias Trickfinger, Trickfinger.

This article on Music Aficionado by our own Barry Cleveland interviewing Frusciante delves into his history with the Wah. Great read.

Tom Morello is best known for his work with band Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave and has since been in the supergroup Prophets of Rage with some of his old bandmates, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk as well as DJ Lord and Chuck D of Public Enemy. His innovative use of pedals introduced new sounds to the post hip-hop scene in the ‘90s, according to this short but sweet snippet about Morello in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists. His most recent album World Wide Rebel Songs is another taste of his energy and creativity.

Dean DeLeo is known for his guitar playing and songwriting with Stone Temple Pilots. The band is alive and very well and are currently on tour with many upcoming dates. He has also appeared on other artist albums and has dabbled in many side projects. With brother Robert DeLeo and the former frontman of Filter, Richard Patrick, the three formed a group called Army of Anyone.

Check out this excellent interview on Music Radar, where DeLeo talks through the entire album “Core” track-by-track.

So how did this happen? How did we get access to these prime guitar dudes?

Well, Barry is good friends with John Frusciante. He interviewed him a few times in the past and a good trusting relationship has formed.

Craig Kallman is a dear friend who I got to know while working on the Dust & Grooves book and happens to be the CEO of Atlantic Records. These guys were instrumental to the beginnings of the project and I’m so fortunate to know them. Craig knows Tom and Dean personally so it is just a matter of sending a quick text to pitch the idea to them. They both confirmed on the spot!

We heavily abide by the motto “Start as hard as you can and then go harder,” and that’s what we are doing here. We are trying to get the best people onboard from the getgo, creating momentum for the whirlwind ahead.
